City of Rochester
Rochester’s city population is approximately 219,773, making it New York’s third most populous city after New York City and Buffalo. It is at the center of a larger Metropolitan Area which encompasses and extends beyond Monroe County and includes Genesee County, Livingston County, Ontario County, Orleans County and Wayne County. This area, which is part of the Western New York region, had a population of 1,037,831 people at the time of the 2000 Census. As of 1 July 2005, this population rose slightly, to 1,039,028.[4]

Greece
Greece is one of Rochester’s prominent suburbs, located to the northwest of the city. It has many businesses in the area, employing a large workforce. Because Greece is a part of the Greater Rochester Metropolitan Area, it helps greatly with the economy of the region. The cultural amenities of Greece are numerous, including the library, community and senior center, recreation, hunting, and parks. The community and senior center contains a 7,800 sq. ft. gymnasium, senior citizen’s lounge, 4,530 sq. ft. multi-purpose room, art room, dance/activity room, programmed fitness area and walking track, and is two stories. There are 17 park areas, and a handful of bike trails in the town as well. Small game, deer, and waterfowl are hunted in the town for recreational purposes. Henrietta
Henrietta, the heart of Monroe County, is a booming community, with a plethora of popular businesses constantly bringing more money into Rochester’s economy. The population in 2000 was approximately 40,000, and it is also home to the Rochester Institute of Technology. There are about 13,000 homes, and the school district is the Rush-Henrietta Central School District. Chili
The town of Chili is one of Rochester’s many distinct and unique communities. Its population and economy have both increased recently. From 1990 to 2000 the population grew by 10 percent, and from 2000 to 2001 economic growth allowed for a $70 million increase in town tax base. The tax rate in Chili is 3.58 per $1,000 assessed value (2008), there are 10,159 households, and four public schools (Churchville, Wheatland, Gates, and Caledonia-Mumford). The population is approximately 30,000. There are also many recreational opportunities in the area, such as the eight town parks, one county park, two museums, a disc golf course, a public nature area, two semi-private golf courses, and two boat launches – one on the Genesee River and one on Black Creek. Classical Orchestra and theatrical performances are offered by Roberts Wesleyan College in the 1,000 seat Hale Auditorium located in the hamlet of North Chili. Fairport
Fairport is located in the town of Perinton, and has a population of 45,000, with 6,000 residents, 300 business owners, and its own school district. There are several parks in Fairport, including Potter Park, Kennelley Park, North Bank Canal Park. Potter Park can be rented for parties and activities, aside from the sporting events that are frequently held there. There is also the Lion’s Den Teen Center, a convenient and fun way to keep teenagers away from the crime and drug problems that have plagued our fair city as of late. Gates
Gates has a population of over 29,000, and two school districts (gates-chili and Spencerport). Because it is the geographical center of Monroe County, and it has easy access to expressways, it is a great place to live for those who have to commute to work. Their housing is among the most affordable in the country. In 2007, CNNMoney.com had Gates as the 16th best real estate bargain in the country. Gates is also home to plenty of popular businesses, such as several banks, Tinseltown, Wal-Mart, Wegmans, the Garden Factory, and plenty of restaurants. Irondquoit
Irondequoit is another popular suburb and shopping center of Rochester, with over 52,000 residents. The residential neighborhoods are very aesthetically pleasing and affordable, and there are two award winning school districts (East and West Irondequoit School District) in the area, and Bishop Kearney High school. It also harbors a movie theatre, shopping and restaurants, as well as the popular and affordable Seabreeze amusement park. The region’s largest 4th of July festival is also held here. There were approximately 22,000 households, and 14,000 families in Irondequoit, according to the 2000 census. Median household income in the Town is $45,276, and median family income is $55,493. Brockport
Brockport, called the Victorian Village on the Erie Canal, plays host to numerous restaurants and businesses, as well as the State University of New York at Brockport. Brockport also has many parks, including Harvester Park and Barry Street Park. Brockport has always maintained a very low crime rate, as well as its own school district (Brockport Central School District). In 2000, there were 8,103 people, 2,399 households, and 1,221 families in Brockport. The median income for a household in the village was $37,068, and the median income for a family was $50,828. Spencerport
The village of Spencerport, which is within the town of Ogden, is home to over 3,500 residents, 1,413 households, and 1,001 families, and has its own airport (Spencerport Airpark (D91)). It also has the Spencerport Central School District. Spencerport’s famous Union Street is littered with shops that keep the business in Spencerport going. It has plenty of parks, shops, businesses, and recreational opportnities to offer both residents and visitors alike. Churchville
Churchville, containing the Churchville central school district, had 1,887 people, 723 households, and 514 families as of the 2000 census. The median income for a household in the village was $55,357, and the median income for a family was $63,333. Churchville is located in the town of Riga, and has a relatively small population as compared to other communities surrounding Rochester. Mendon
Mendon has 8,400 people, and is on the south border of Monroe County. In 2000, there were 8,370 people, 3,070 households, and 2,348 families residing in the town, and the median income was 76,000 for a household and 87,000 for a family. Mendon also has the Mendon Ponds Park. North Mendon uses the Pittsford school district, and south Mendon uses the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District. Palmyra
Palmyra, as of 2000, had 3,490 people, 1,494 households, and 871 families, with the median household and family income at $38,561 and $49,450 respectively. The village is located east of Rochester. The school district is the Palmyra-Macedon School District. It also offers visitors and residents several bed and breakfasts, hotels and motels, apartments, banking and financial services, child and adult care, and computer, business and printing services, as well as numerous other businesses, shopping, and other amenities. Ogden
In 2000, Ogden had a population of 18,492, 6,527 households, and 5,032 families. The median income for a family was 64,000, and the median income for a household was 59,000. The village of Spencerport is in Ogden. Ogden has a community center, and volunteer fire organizations run by the citizens. There are many other activities and resources available for the community, such as Adams Basin Inn, Heritage Farms, Historic Downtown Spencerport, Historical Churches and Houses, Northampton Park, and the Erie Canal. Penfield
Penfield had a population of approximately 35,000. There were 13,444 households and 9,600 families as well. The median household income was 63,000 and the median family income was 75,000. Penfield is served by the Penfield Central School District, which has 4 elementary schools, 3 high schools, and two middle schools. Perinton
Perinton’s population was 46,000 as of 2000, and there were 17,591 households, and 12,964 families. There median household income was 69,000 and the median family income was 80,000. The town is well known for its multitude of parks and trails, being called Trail Town USA. Some of these parks include Beechwoods Park, Egypt Park, Fellows Road Park, and Spring Lake Park, amongst many others, including hiking trails, nature trails, pavilions, and sports areas. Rush
Rush is in southwest Monroe county, ten miles south of Rochester, and had a population of 3,600 as of the 2000 census. There were also 268 households, and 995 families, making it one of the smallest towns in the area surrounding Rochester. The median household income at that time was 67,000, and the median family income was 73,000. Rush uses the Rush-Henrietta Central School District. The town is bordered by Livingston County, Mendon, Henrietta, and Wheatland. Rush also has many good recreational opportunities, such as football and basketball camps, after school programs, the Rush Fall Festival, and the Rush Seniors group, as well as others. Scottsville
Scottsville is a village in southwestern Monroe County, and is located in the northeastern part of the town of Wheatland. In 2000, the population of Scottsville was 2,000, and there were 835 households and 591 families. The median household was $52,000, and the median income for a family was $61,000. The school district if the Wheatland-Chili Central School District, and there is an elementary, middle, and high school. Attractions unique to Scottsville are Canawaugus Park, Oatka Creek, and Greenway Trail, along with many other attractions and ways to relax and enjoy oneself. Victor
Victor is a town in northwest Ontario County, southeast of Rochester. In 2000, the population was 10,000, and there were 3,600 households and 2,700 families. The median household income at the time was 59,000, and the median family income was 71,000. In 2006 there was approximately 5,000 housing units. LeRoy
LeRoy is a village on the eastern border of Genesse County, located at the intersection of Routes 5 and 19, only three miles from exit 47 of the New York State Thruway and the 490 expressway into Rochester. It had a population of 4,500 in 2000. There were 1,845 households, and 1,114. The median household income was 33,000 and the median family income was 43,000, both of which are relatively low numbers. East Rochester
East Rochester is a village southeast of Rochester, and shares its borders with Pittsford and Perinton. In 2000, it had a population of 6,600, with 2,800 households and 1,600 families. The median household income was 39,000, and the median family income was 48,000.
